Relay For Life
It was a pleasure for our club to join forces with our friends at CPEC UWA in 2016 to raise funds for this great cause. With both clubs forming a team of 17 people, we successfully raised almost $1000 to contribute toward the Cancer Council's research, prevention and support services. This cause is close to many of our committee member's hearts, and we are extremely excited to be participate in the 2017 edition of Relay for Life.
In October 2016, SPE UWA hosted a bake sale to raise funds for OneGirl. OneGirl is a charity that provides funding for schooling for disadvantaged girls in Africa - for more information, refer to their website. Over $200 was raised for this great charity, all thanks to the staff and students of UWA that purchased our delicious baked goods.
HBF Run for a Reason
2016 saw a team of 10 SPE UWA committee members participate in the HBF Run for a Reason. The charity that we were running for was the Heart Foundation, with a range of distances completed, from the 4 km walk to the 12 km run. If you are interested in joining the 2017 SPE UWA team, please refer to our Facebook event.
Manna's Sleep for Charity
On Saturday 14 May 2016, SPE UWA, along with AusIMM, CPEC and TCS, formed a big team of 14 to raise awareness of volunteer charity group Manna's Hot'n'Healthy Meals program. This program provides food to the homeless and struggling people of Perth, with a meal costing just $5 per person. A night was spent under the stars at Gloucester Park with giant Jenga and a balance skill tester to keep us entertained. 5 team members braved the cold to spend the night at Gloucester Park to get a true feel of what homelessness feels like.
A total of $1,125 was raised, enabling Manna to provide over 225 meals for the homeless of Perth. If you would like more information on the great work that Manna do, click here.
